About The Author

The kitchen is a sacred space that fosters bonds with loved ones.

Danyel Simpson’s culinary journey started within the heart of her home, where her mother prepared savory Southern cuisines daily. Danyel eloquently reflects, stating, “I come from a long line of talented southern cooks, and, like many, my culinary apprenticeship unfolded beside my mother.”

Growing up in Central New Jersey, she would stand steadfastly on the tallest step stool, eagerly assisting her mother in the kitchen. Her mother handled most of the cooking, but Danyel would sit and bake, paying close attention to her mother’s culinary skills. Although she didn’t initially showcase her cooking talents, her mother noticed her passion for food and eating. It was a heartfelt manifestation of love.

Danyel’s academic journey led her to Florida Memorial University, where she pursued a double major in Criminal Justice and Sociology with a minor in Psychology. The move to Florida introduced her to Southern hospitality, and she embraced the charm of a community of women who encouraged her to adopt a more respectful and less direct demeanor.

She became pregnant with her then-partner, which prompted her to take on more domestic responsibilities and embrace motherhood. Eventually facing challenges with her partner, separating, and experiencing a difficult pregnancy, Danyel returned to New Jersey, graduating summa cum laude with a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology, accompanied by a minor in Psychology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

As a first-time mother, she found strength and grew up quickly with the support of her mother, raising her child together as a unit, distancing herself from the abusive relationship, and deciding to prioritize her mental and spiritual well-being.

She embarked on a seven-year journey of self-love and self-care. She set goals, underwent an identity shift, and turned 30, all while focusing on her child and self-improvement. Danyel chose celibacy, embraced spirituality, and underwent therapy to address issues like anger and subconscious triggers, cultivating an intentional attitude of gratitude and recognizing the importance of love in life.

Danyel became active in church volunteering and continued to nurture her outgoing and maternal qualities. A chance encounter at the airport led Danyel to meet her current husband.

They embarked on a long-distance relationship, leading to a COVID-19 baby in October 2020, followed by an engagement in Thanksgiving 2020 and a wedding in May 2021. This period marked a shift towards domesticity for Danyel.

Danyel started casually cooking and contemplated creating a cookbook, though the demands of a new baby and family responsibilities postponed this project. Nonetheless, 2021 saw her fully embracing her role as a stay-at-home mom, managing household chores and nurturing her family. Her purpose-driven life led her to share her journey, life, and passion with the world through social media in January 2021. She aimed to reveal her true self and inspire others with her story.

In 2022, Danyel felt frustrated with her remote job in insurance, which prompted conversations with her husband about her passion for cooking. She decided to pursue her culinary talents, with her husband’s support, by starting a business, obtaining an LLC, and working on her cookbook and family decor projects.

Danyel’s journey represents a path of self-discovery, empowerment, and embracing one’s true calling. She seeks to inspire women to be themselves, prioritize safety, nourishment, love, and community support, and release their fears.

In her quest to fulfill her life’s mission, Danyel acknowledges her husband’s and mother’s unwavering support and fully believes in giving her best in all her endeavors. She aims to showcase the possibilities for Black women across America, breaking generational curses through the healing power of God.

Danyel Simpson’s life story is a testament to her personal growth, resilience, and the pursuit of her passions. Her culinary journey is a reflection of her love for family, creativity, and a desire to inspire others through her culinary creations.
